A Deep Thought...

I came up with this one myself!

Prepare to be moved......

"Every child is like a blank slate waiting to be written on. But- every blank slate has a unique texture which determines and defines what media can be used and what can be written on it."

Please feel free to quote this and include it on one of those lists of deep thoughts people post here every now and then.

Nobel Prize here I come!

Thats a very western thought. The eastern one would be a river of knowledge that a student dips into on their own volition. Your idea implies that control is required by someone else. Someone else other than the student needs to manage the learning of the student, if I understand you correctly. If this is right then learning cannot take place unless someone is supporting, managing, construction, evaluating etc... the students learning.

This is the same as saying we can't advance as a society of thinkers because no one smarter is going to teach us how. Ask yourself where the smart ones came from, we have the ability to think deeper than our teachers (especially some of our local teachers) because we have the ability to write on our own slate in a trial and error fashion. It's slower than someone giving us the answers but it definitely does work.

If my memory serves we right, it was Bishop Fulton J. Sheen from the 1950's that said.....College is the process of recording the professor's notes onto your note book without the thought having gone thru the mind of either party.

How about this: If every child is a blank slate, yet so many come out of school below average, does that mean teachers don't know how to write?

Lol, FORDSIX always whitty.

There are 3 camps on this issue actually. I read discover magazine I should know

One states a child's development is purely biological and is based totally on their genes.

Another is that it is totally a product of their environment.

Lastly is half and half. This is the one I tend to support. It is proven original thought can't be contrived on it's own, for example that girl Jeanie who was tied to a porta potty for her first 12 years and now can't get past the intellectual level of an 8 year old. The early years are by far the most important, because language comes very difficult to older people, and this we all know is by far the most important of communication tools.

I believe that every student whether or not they have a teacher, or are a student of the world has different ways of learning so indeed I believe your 'deep thought' is truly profound.

How about this for a deep thought......

My thought or observation on this issue of intelligence and all the subsets that have their origions in basic brain power ...is that ..... there ARE basic Differences in levels of intelligence between Races of people when you look at the Total numbers of a given ethnic group....i.e......The jewish minority in this country has probably no more than 6 or 7 million total in a country that has a total population of around 290 million. Specifically... Look at the very large presence or number of jews in All academic fields ....Look at the number of jews in the Movie industry in ALL facets of the business.....Look , for instance , at the number of mathematicans, engineers , chemists , physicists that worked on the Manhattan project in WW2 to develop the the first nuclear Bomb. And , when you reasearch the names of scientists from historical records and what they discovered in terms of physics and chemistry and mathematics it kind of seems obvious that they have been and still are a Tremendously talented and gifted people... Some will disagree and that's just fine with me....but to deny the Obvious is to not accept their place in History....fd
