My 1997 PSD E4OD is beginning to slip while towing and at 238xxx miles it would be right to think about a rebuild. Are there kits to make a '97 E4OD to 4R100 specs? Or is the '97 the strongest you can make these trannies?
the 4R100 isn't much better than the E40D. I would suggest either rebuilding with upgraded parts from Racer X, or buy a rebuilt tranny from Brian's Truck Shop (BTS). It'll cost you about $4k for a BTS trans but they are build to last and will hold up to just about anything you throw at them.

Give Racer X a call ,,,They are a custom transmission, torque converter and valve body manufacturer. And easy to deal with . They may be the only custom transmission manufacturers & re-builders who also manufacture their own custom torque converters, parts and valve bodies in house. They can provide either a rebuild or parts. Plus ,he's more than happy to answer questions if need be .. Good luck with which ever solution you go with.
great info guys does racer x have a site? and what kind of parts does he carry? cuz i am going with a sun coast triple converter, red alto/kolene steel set, TransGo tugger, and a aluminum pan. i am looking for 6 pinion carriers and to see if the core support needs to be upgraded also.
Ya I'm sure they do, google it. The only thing I've done to my tranny is put a racer x valve body in. I was going to put a transgotugger in but when I talked to them with the miles on my tranny(147000 stock still) they suggested a custom built valve body to hold my mods better. Great price and it works awesome. I've never felt my tranny shift so solid and pure as it does now.
