ive got a quick question before i tackle this project today... i have the 8.8 rear end and i bought a tube of 7 ounce tube of FM at autozone. i have heard 4 ounces is what should be used, but would 7 be okay? i dont want to do anything that will cause damage.... also is there anything i need to do to my gasket before i put it in? rub gear oil on it maybe? the last thing i want other than damage is a freakin leak. lol. thanks for the help guys!

7 oz will be fine. Put it in first then fill up with gear oil.

If you've got a premade gasket, put a thin coat of RTV on it and stick it to the cover. I always coat both sides, but I know those that only do one side so it'll stick to the cover when you're mounting it....

1. If it were me i would NOT use the diesel to clean it out......just a good draining and refill

2. Gaskets are no where near 30 bucks....last one i bought for a 8.8 was 12 dollars...

3. Royal purple will be a waste of money in a diff.....especially if you're not running a ton of power through it...

I've rebuilt alot of 8.8's and they're great axles....while you have it apart i'd put in new axle seals and maybe bearings if it were me......then you'll be good for another 100,000 miles....
