I have a 79 with a 460 and want to put a 351w in. Are the frame perches the same or do they have to be changed? Also if they have to be changed would any of you happen to have some you would sell?
I know the c6 won't work I have a 4 speed goin in it too. The 460 is useless for me all it does is use a lot of gas. I'd rather get good gas mileage and have a low first gear than have that big *** motor with a useless automatic on it's last leg any day

I have had 3 dentsides with V8s and none of them got what I would consider anywhere near "good" gas mileage. How bad is the 460? I had a 79 shortbed auto with a 351m and it didnt get any better than the 79 f250 with the same motor, as I recall 8- 12 mpg roughly.
Must not be a toy you are driving if your worried about MPG... 460 will run circles around that Windsor...But if gas mileage is the concern your right...
my toy 77 super cab is getting a 460/c6. lol. So there goes your theory on the toy theory. lol.
Seriously though, gas mileage is much more a factor of tuning, gearing, and driving style than anything else.
Lifts and big tires will kill gas mileage no matter what, but with reasonable street tires, higher gearing to keep the rev's down, a carb that is properly tuned and jetted, and an alignment to make sure the tires aren't scrubbing at all, gas mileage shouldn't be that drastically different between motors. If fuel mileage is really the primary concern, I have a 300 straight six i'll sell you cheap. :-)
Or you could try swapping in a fuel injected 302 which will get about 150% of the mileage of the closest carb'd truck...

unless your truck is geared to low to begin with. if youre runnin 4.10s or 4.56s at highway speeds, some bigger tires will drop your rpms and help your fuel mileage. i know, ive done it.

not necessarily. a properly tuned carb motor will run right with an identical EFI motor for mileage. or do better in the case of the late 80s and early 90s ford fuel infection...
Im positive you wont be happy with the results. It will be a turd at best. Thus meaning you will be smashing the loud pedal to the floor to try and get it to move at what that big block did at 1/4 throttle and will be burning the same amount if not more gas. Those windsors are neato in a 2500 lb car but you put em in a 5000lb truck and the torque just isnt there. i get 11.5 mpg in a 85 f-250 with a 460 thats doin 75 down the highway. look into your tuning and keep in mind its not a civic. You want gas milage put efi and an e40d on that 460. 15 mpg. The cost in any of these changes will take you forever to get back out of the effect.
