Question JC Whitney?

I am wondering if anyone has purchased any intake and/or exhaust manifolds from JC Whitney? I tried to go to www.jegs.com with the link provided by a user (be damned if I can find that message again) but the board appears to be down.

Anyhow, for those who have purchased the above from JCWhitney; any comments, good or bad?

Thanks, but I just checked the "Store", found nothing for my 300cid Ford six-cylinder. Thanks, anyhow.

JC Whitney?

Try looking for Offenhauser or Pace setter I bought a intake and a set of hedders from them ...I would strongly advise against the headers ,rather use EFI exhaust manifolds....also use a 2300 serices 350 cfm Holley 2bbl as the 390 CFM holley 4bbl is a little much for the low reving 300 I 6 ....If I were to do it again thats what I would do...The headers make starter removal a PITA and they tend to rust in a matter of months (mine did)
I hope this helps , talk to "Ford Six" as he has all of my old 300 parts on his engine and is quite happy with the results

Question JC Whitney?

Regarding those EFI headers; Really?
Are those split, so that you can attach two exhaust pipes to?
The Ford dealer here says that they (the exhaust headers) are in two pieces but they bolt together, thus leaving just the one outlet pipe.

Is this true?

Talking JC Whitney?

The EFI exhaust manifolds are split. There is a front and a rear manifold, they are not connected to each other, and there are two outlets one from each. These combine before the cat or the cat has two inlets ( don't remember which ) and exit the cat as one pipe to the muffler. This is based on a 1990 F-150.

PS I believe the pipes combine before the cat

Do I ever owe a heap of gratitude to the folks that have been providing prompt and informational replies!!

I contacted a local auto-wrecker (60 miles from here, so not far) and was told that the set of headers off of an EFI 4.9l will fit my 1984 4.9! Yeahh, that bit of information [from stractor & others] just saved me $400US plus shipping minus the $133.00 Cdn (no shipping).

Man, do I love this board!

By the way, thanks also for that URL re: performance numbers before and after (bigblocksix.com/dyno_runs/stock.png & _dp_500_252.png). Verrry helpful!!

IF I were you I would also get the front pipe also, (save you time and money for fabricating the exhaust)

OK, but I am confused, chas1234

What "front pipe" are you talking about? Are you referring to the plumbing underneith that already exists on an EFI?

The front pipe is what is used from the factory, going from the manifolds to the cat. The two pipes are 2" in diameter, and both go into the cat. Just cut immedietely in front of the cat, and run dual 2" pipes out. This is the system I have, and it works great. Or, you could keep the front cat, and run a 2.5" or 3" single. Either way, this is a great alternative to having custom pipes made, or running headers
