Krylon Fusion paint for plastic works great on door panels, dash, ect, covers great and its tough
I used krylon on my door panels last year, and it seems to scratch off very easy. I gave the doors a spray of prep to help adhesion, than i gave them two coats of krylon.
So, im currently looking for some SEM products EM mentioned too see how they hold up.
First off I want to apologize for the multiple posts on how to upload images. I had computer reception problems at home & it kept screwing up last night so bad to the point I just shut the computer off & waited till I got to work today to do this.
I want to Thank girlwithatruck for showing me how to do this.
With that being said here's what my door panels look like. Any advise?
That's not too bad, I still think some scratch remover and dye would work or sanding, finishing putty and paint. Not sure which is less prone to scratching as I've only fixed one cars interior panels then sold it so not sure how it held up. I did the sanding, putty and paint thing, but that's just me.
Hey Muskratt...yup mine looked MUCH like that...i forgot to tell you I also bondo'd that deep ring made by the window roller cuz it was really deep on mine...also, dont know if this is happening to you but the tops of the panels where it was all sun-damaged on mine had turned powdery...that's why i started with sanding...i wanted to sand off all that loose material and then basically "seal" the area with bondo so it would hold the ColorCoat (which btw is a dye)...ADDED bonus: looks like your vinyl arm rests are in GREAT shape...if you want to change the color though, ColorCoat also can be used on vinyl...you cant even tell it's not the original color...and it dries completely and non-sticky when prepped correctly
ps. i'm glad the "how-to" helped you get the pics up! And most people here call me "Em" if you'd like to
Girtwithatruck is there any way you could post close up pics of your door panels? I want to see what the texture looks like after sanding, bondo, and paint. Btw ordered me couple cans of SEM yesterday. Palomino is my color looks really close to my interior.
hey there JGreen...sure! I'll take some pics today for you...keep in mind that i DEFINITELY could have done a better job of it but I was in a rush to get my doors put back together and, you know, it's my in-progress truck...if you have the time and the patience you can make yours look even better
Girlwithatruck. You did a great job with your panels. My '81 is the same color interior and I've been 'thinking' about how to restore them. Never/never would have thought about using Bondo...(it's a bad word) but it's a great idea! My panels look about like Muskratts except for the color.
Have you done some dash work also?
hey parr4! yeah bondo works great on plastic...much better suited to that than bodywork imho...and YES i have done dash work...in fact, here's the link to my how-to on my dash: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...your-dash.html
it worked great and you can see what other guys have done in the rest of the thread...
