Water Pump leaking

96 F150 4.9l, I have a steady thin flow of coolant leaking from my truck. i found that it is coming from a hole (about 1/4" dia) on the side of the water pump. It is on the driver side. there is no plug of any sort in the hole and im wondering if there is supposed to be or if i could thread a bolt in there to plug it?? It has been doing this for a few days but hasn't been a steady flow untill today. i added some coolant a few days ago and temp is fine when i drove it. Help aAnybody???

Thanks, Dylan

you need a new water pump.

that is the weep hole and leaks after bearing fails.

These waterpumps are easy. What. like 2 or 3 bolts and the belt and youre good to go.

And I agree with Quicklook, weep hole. seals in waterpump, need to replace it.

They're a little harder than that on the 4.9. You have to use the dreaded fan clutch tool.

Really? I didnt think so, but then again I dont have my truck right now so I cant go look at it. Either way, at least you dont have to pull the whole engine apart for it.

100% sure. That part of it is the worst. That nut can be stuck on there really tight.

if radiator is in then put cardboard between it and pump.

remove fan clutch first, get tools and maybe a chain wrench to grip it.

comes of lefty loosey, no matter what the haynes manual says.

remove shroud second.

spray bolts for a day or so.

good time to put on new belt: use a goodyear gatorback belt, usually lifetime warranty.
