Water Pump Leak

Well... another week, another problem.

Walked outside today to find a puddle of coolant under the truck. I have a pretty steady drip coming from the water pump. Looks like it might be coming from the weep hole, hard to see but its up near the pulley.

So, with that said, Im assuming I need to replace the water pump. I just did a dang coolant flush too like 2 weeks ago.

Any tips or things to look for?

Where should I get my water pump from?

Any bolts I need to worry about, I read people break them off in the block, Should I replace the bolts as well.

What other parts should I replace while Im in there?

I didn't have too much trouble with the bolts thankfully. I would consider a thermostat for it. I needed mine quick so I ended up with an Autozone pump. No complaints so far and it has been on there for 4 or 5 years. the neck can be a pain to reseal. Make sure it is good and clean, if it is pitted you may want to consider a new one. The pump itself uses an O-ring instead of a gasket so I just dabbed some sealant in the corners to hold it in place during installation and it went pretty smoothly. it is pretty straight forward

Dump your coolant out the bottom T of the rad hose. It's quicker that way. Just save it in a bucket and reuse. Be careful taking out the bolts at the thermostat housing. They tend to break.

Make sure its the actual water pump and not the thermostat housing. Autozoo water pumps are good quality thats what my truck and all the fleet at work use, they come with lifetime warranty.

Good deal, thanks guys.

It's not the t-stat housing, I had that leak right after the coolant change 4 hours away from home. I ended up snapping the head off one on those bolts with a little too much tightening torque. It was the rear one and I had to drill it out... Fun stuff, just glad father in law had some tools I could use. Almost missed Easter dinner though.

How hard is the job itself? Never done one.

Figured I'd ask on this thread since it's dealing with water pumps.

It looks like I may have an OIL leak coming from my water pump bolts near the pump pulley. It's also possible it's coming from the HPOP gear cover, but I'm not too sure.

When installing my new water pump with the filter setup, the instructions said no silicon is needed on the water pump. However, I read from various threads that the four bolts surrounding the pulley (two near the top and two near the bottom) go into an oil gallery or something and need a sealer on them.

Is this true? If it is, can I just take those bolts out, spray some brake cleaner in there to get rid of the oil residue, and apply some RTV?
