hey guys i got my ficm reflashed yesterday and still my truck wont start worth a crap. its a 2004 by the way. when i start it i have to keep the key turned because it starts to fire but wont start unless i keep the key turned to run for a while. when it finally does fire and run on its own it sounds so bad. like its running on 2 cylinders. im going to collage in laramie, wy. and we are at 7200 feet in elevivation. it will not warm up to operating temp unless for at least 30 minutes. then when i drive it for the first 5 miles it wont shift unless i let off the throttle and the truck seems misses and power comes in and out. i have no idea what to do? thanks for your help
When did all these problems start, all at once or kinda a gradual thing? When you had it at the dealer for the reflash did you tell them about the all the problems you were experiencing? How cold has it been in your area? Does it make any diff if you plug in the block heater? What weight oil do you run in the winter? Do you use any diesel fuel additives esp in the winter? Is your gas station noted for having problems with diesel fuel?
Did the service tech check your FICM voltage (should min 45V, typical 48V), fuel filters, drain the HCFM and look for water, glow plugs, etc.
Once it warms up does it run any better, if so it could be a glow plug issue.
it came gradual at first then all at once it started getting really bad. I told the dealer all the problems but it is a small town dealer and it seemed like they didnt really have the knowlege or the drive to help me much. i cant plug my truck in because i live on campus and they wont allow us to plug our trucks in. i just change my oil and am trying the new T6 5w-40. i use howes for my diesel treatment and none have helped my start ups at all.
also it runs way better when its warmed up but there is still a miss. and it seems like when my truck shifts into overdrive i have a horrible shake in my entire truck
sure sounds like an injector or two on there way out.you could also check the positive cables on the side passenger battery for corrosion. that's where the glow plug control module gets its power from.but if it's still missing after its warm thats probably not the problem.
Hard shifting is related to the bad injector/injectors. They should have been able to see that when you got reflashed IF they ran the truck of IF the tech even cared to look. The reflash might help some but if the spool valve is damaged then you might as well replace the injector.
I also agree have your injectors checked out soon. Also it could be a failing FICM. Have your charging system checked out too, it can cause FICM failure over time.
