I was under the impression the 5.8 was only available with an auto trans, or am I mistaken?

If so could have been a swap I suppose.

Also...in this area (wv) that would be the average price, and I've seen several similar trucks go for over 4 grand.

With a stock 351 and 148,000 miles, I'd think you would be looking at a rebuild soon, depending on how much driving you do. Have a compression test done and a mechanic look over it before you purchase it. It's cheap insurance.

Like I said, I'm probably mistaken. I'd love to have a 5sp in my 250. If it runs strong, no smoke, and no internal noises I wouldnt be overly concerned with the mileage, but I'd consider first how long I planned on owning the truck and if I was willing to replace an engine in the future. I always looked at the body and interior and if its ragged, the engine most likely is as well lol.

I wouldnt worry too much about the mileage if it has been taken care of. Ive got a 93 F-150 with a 351 with 204000 with no major engine work done yet. It has the automatic that has never been touched either. Regular maintenance will make them last a long time.

I believe good numbers would be in the 180-200psi range but could be as low as 160-170. The lowest reading should be roughly 15-20% of your highest number. I'm sure someone here can be more specific but until then that will give you a starting point.

i had a 96 F250 with a 351 and a 5 speed. (could only do 5mph in 1st) it had 301k miles on it when i sold it. there was nothing it couldn't pull (10k Lb dodge ram (service body) was a little hard on it but it did it (had to tow the dodge to a shop)) i sold the truck for $2500. just thought i would throw that in.

I have a 150 with the 5.8 and 180k on the odo. It is an amazing motor, other than regular maintenance I have had no issues with it in the last 5 years. It burns a little oil but other than that it's cool. I'm here in South Eastern PA and a rust free 250 4x4 5.8 would call for way more than 3300, I could sell my 150 for more than that, not that I would. It all depends on what they would go for in your area and if YOU think its worth it.

Last January I bought a full load 92 F350 4x4 crew with 7.5, fresh rebuilt HD E4OD and no rust. It was in Oakland and I paid $4300. Original owner with 165,000 miles. I think it was a great deal. Zero problems in a year of long haul towing and LOTS of Mexican gas. As with others, we have rust issues where I live. I could sell this truck for close to $10k here. Crazy, but true! I would not be worried about the mileage too much either. If it has been taken care of you should be good for a while. The older trucks are much more durable in my opinion.
