BAD CD PLAYER QUESTION

99 F250 LD 4x4 with 5.4L.
My truck has the in dash am/fm with single cd. The cd player hasn't worked since I purchased the truck used. It flashes bad disc all the time.
I'm trying to decide whether or not to replace it or try to repair it. I've seen
similar stereos on ebay for under a hundred bucks or should I take it to
a repair shop? It won't even take the disc in. Does anyone have any idea
what could be the problem?

Sounds to me like its just seen better days and is ready to be replaced. You can buy cheap CD players at places like best buy and have them installed, all for under $100.

Is it possible there is a disc stuck in it? Believe it or not, I had that issue. I took the radio out, put it on a towel on the kitchen table, and was able to figure out how to remove the entire face plate, and guess what? there was a disc stuck on an angle. Removed it, put it together again reinstalled it and worked fine ever since.
