pedal assembly

Does anyone know if there is any differance in break bedals between powerbreaks and manual breaks. I have manual breaks and am changing to powerbreaks. I jst dont know if it will be easier to switch pedal assemblies.

The part numbers are different between pedals with and without power brakes but that doesn't necessarily mean you can't use the manual pedal when you switch to power brakes.

I have always changed the entire pedal/hanger assembly when swapping to power brakes. The reason is that manual and power brakes usually use a different fulcrum point to give you more leverage with the manual brakes. I have also found that somewhere in the 70s they changed the brake booster. When using a booster from the late 70s, the brake pedal ends up closer to the floor, making it necessary to move the brake light switch mount when using an older cab (mine has a 78 brake setup in a 75 cab). I also had this problem putting a 77 brake system in my 70 and also using 78 brake system in my 73 highboy. maybe someone has access to some part #s and can give you the specs on the different parts.

Thanksbetween the gas and break. Thanks again for the info. for the info guys. My biggest problem with the manual pedal is hight. I dont like how high the brake peddal sits right now so in high traffic it really starts to hurt my hip and leg because of lift my leg so high to get the break peddal. There is almost 5-6 in differance in hight

If swap in the booster/pedal from a late 70s model your pedal will sit lower, like I said I've done this in several rigs. the hanger is easy to change, you need to drop the steering column and unbolt it.

What year is your truck? I'm assuming it's an F100 since power brakes were an extra cost option.

Look on the brake pedal you have now for its stamped ID number, post what it is. It'll be similar to this: D3TA-2455-AA

All 1973/79 F100/350 brake (and clutch pedals) have ID numbers stamped on them, because...

There were TWENTY TWO different brake pedals, SEVEN different clutch pedals, NINETEEN different power brake boosters! I kid you not.

When making this kind of swap on 1973/79's, whatever the booster is from, the brake (and clutch) pedal must be the same application. Otherwise...

Why would you need to change it...unless you are swapping transmissions? 1973/79 F100/350: There are two different brake pedal supports (hangers): One for A/T, one for M/T.

The difference is not with the pedal support. The difference is with the boosters mounting bracket (which only came with it).

The brake (and clutch) pedal must match the booster's application.

i did this swap in my highboy and it was not fun. my truck was manual brakes and someone used a booster with an adjustable push rod. they made brackets to hold the booster to the cab. my booster sat really low and i couldnt run my cobra jet valve covers. i got a bracket off of a 77 that has the super short push rod to the booster. but the booster was toast. i had all new booster and master cylinder already so i had to cut the push rod on the new booster, drill and tap it and then play with rod lengths till i finally got it right. i had to adjust my stop light switch a couple inches, and it all works great now. tho it was not fun nor easy to do.
