Which alternator do I have?
Does anyone know if there is a code on the vin or something that will tell me which alternator i need for my 2005 Mariner AWD 3.0 automatic? I was going to buy a motorcraft alt. at a junkyard and have it rebuilt for half the price of a re-manufactured junk brand at autozone but i need to know exactly which one to get

I don't know the answer to your question but I think your objective to rebuild is smart. When my original alternator failed on my '02 after 150,000 miles I went through 3 of the "junk aftermarket" units in 3 months before finally getting a decent one. That was 3 times I was broken down on the road including once with my boat in tow. Makes the tow truck situation kind of complicated.

Thats exactly why i was going to have a motorcraft one rebuilt, I've heard too many horror stories about the junk the local part stores sell...I'm having someone installit since you have to take the transaxle out to get to it 
so i cant just rebuild the one i have. I just need to figue out if i need the 110 or 120 amp alternator, i think its 110 but not sure...
