Not sure what the term for this is, but when stopping I get a fairly loud grinding/rubbing sound coming from the front brakes. It only happens when the truck is just about the stop - so it isn't brake squeal or worn brakes. in fact the rotors and pads are 2 months old.
I guess my question is whether this might be related to the pads themselves (they're ceramic) or possibly a warped rotor surface.
rangers have a common problem of the caliper bolts backing out. i would give those a check. a warped rotor will give you a pretty good vibration of the steering wheel.
Ceramic pads will chew up rotors, so by the time you're ready for front pads again you will need to replace the rotors too. Or even before the pads are ready to be changed. That's what you hear when going slow with the brakes partly applied, pads grinding the rotors. A new van we had went through rotors pretty fast with the ceramic pads it came with. You will see more brake dust and dirt on the front wheels because of this too as well as in the back if you have rear disc brakes.
Geeze this one fell into the noise fast so I gave up on it.
I got the ceramic pads after reading that they actually produced LESS dust than metallic or semi-metallic. After using them for a while I'm less than impressed - they fade like mad and boy do they ever grind. I might just go ahead and toss them for good pads.
On the issue of the mounting bolts backing out - you ain't kidding, my front passenger bolt backed out 3 times before I finally snugged it to the 80 ft-lbs they recommend. 80 ft-lbs is HUGE, way more than should be needed for that.
