I am right in the middle of installing the 6637 intake mod and I need some help. I have taken out the stock filter box and have the filter sitting in place but there is no way the hood will close. The hood starts pressing down on the filter when it is several inches from being totally closed. Do I have to remove the entire tray that was under the stock filter box as well? If so I guess that means pulling the battery?
Any quick help would be greatly appreciated; I need to get this completed tonight; trailering my jeep up to Rausch Creek tomorrow for a weekend of crawling.
Did you remove the lower half of the stock airbox? If not do that. If it still won't work, get out a Dremel or a hacksaw and cut out the portion of the OEM battery box that was under the stock airbox.
I removed my whole battery tray, took a sawzall to the reminant of the airbox that is attached to the battery tray and reinstalled.Took maybe 20 min.... Fit like a dream.
I ran up against the very same thing on my install. Talking to Clay I learned there are 3 variants there.
1. It fits fine, no mods needed.
2. You have a two piece battery holder/bottom tray and a few screws will let it pop out.
3. You have a one-piece battery/bottom tray and have to pull the battery and tray assembly and take a sawzall to the connecting part to separate and still maintain the battery tray.
I had 2. but couldn't really tell till I had the battery out, which made it easier to work on anyway. It was also a great time to clean up my battery posts and get a bit of Liquid Film on the terminals.
Dumb ? - But Will turning the rubber boot(pivoting it) from the turbo help- Mine hit the hood when I first installed it till I did this, Now its fine. Good Luck- let us know how it works out
Thanks for all of the quick replies guys; I really appreciate it!
I did remove the bottom half of the stock box and I did turn the rubber boot but it is still too high. I was afraid the battery tray had to go but I just wanted to hear it from experience. I'll get right on it!
