6637 Installed
I got my stage 2 filter ( the cloth cover) in the mail today and was able to do the assembly of my kick but intake using the 6637 filter. I was running a piece of bent 3” tube and a K&N; man could you hear that thing. The 6637 is so much quieter. Pretty close to stock.
I had to sewage the 4” tube on 1 side to 4 ¼” to make a tight fight as I reversed the Intake tube. The tube I received from the deal (Mine was cracked) was 4” on the air filter side and 4 ¼ on the ccv side. By switching it out I needed to sewage it bigger to make a very tight fit.
I then installed the Filter, adapter, and intake tube together. Placed the pre-filter over it, and cut a hole in the pre-filter to match the one I place in the 6637 for the filter minder. The whole thing fit is very very snugly, but not coming into contact with the hood. I could add a strap to hold the filter in place but I cant see it moving on its own.
Hope this gives everyone thinking about it a push to do it.
I had bought what I thought was a good setup… Cleanly bent intake pipe and a K&N… but this is more elegant, complete and able to meet the demands of this engine. I just wish I didn’t already have an filter setup .
Congrats, Justin, on a great but simple and low-cost mod. Yours, though, is the first install I've herad of where the 6637 produced a quieter ride, though. Then again, I don't think that most are switching from K&N either.
Dittto on the 6637 covers. Got mine a couple weeks ago and installed one on the 97 and it looks sharp. Did the 6637 mod on the 02 last week and it too looks sharp. These covers are both, a nice clean look under the hood, and with regular cleaning, will help the 6637 filters last longer. Nice job Pete.
