Hey guys, I'm having some issues with my 2002 4.6 v8 explorer. I just replaced the motor and now the transmission doesn't even try to move. It just acts like it's in neutral no matter what gear i put it in. The torque converter is bolted up, the transmission is flush with the motor. The reverse lamps do come on when in reverse, and if I am holding the gas and shift it into drive then the RPM's do go down a little bit, then raise back up after a few seconds. I don't believe that we lost a whole lot of fluid, any help is greatly appreciated
Check the fluid level with the engine off and then with the engine running, the fluid level should drop with the engine running, if it remains the same it is a indication of pump failure.
Not necessarily, but its a quick way to tell if the pump gears are smashed or broken due to the converter not being fully seated into the pump. Which happens to be the number one reason for the loss of a transmission after a engine install and is square one. If no oil is being pumped out of the lines, pull it out something is wrong with the pump.
