The service advisor told me that he is not supposed to give me any paperwork with the breakdown of the warranty work. So I found a little birdie that was quite helpful. Here's the cost breakdown that the little birdie gave me:
Total Parts: $827.11
Labor: 10.9 hours @ $89.82 = $979.04
Total Cost: $1,806.15
I don't know what the going rate is for a diesel tech. I'm sure $89.82 is the rate Ford pays for warranty work. I'd expect a customer rate to be higher. Maybe Cheezit will stop by this thread to give you a good number. Either the rate will be higher or the billed hours will be higher.
The service advisor told me that they also reconditioned the turbo and reflashed the truck but that is not in any of the paperwork that the little birdie gave me.
If the EGR or Oil Cooler is your problem, then I'd just delete the EGR rather than replace the cooler. Just be sure to check out your local emissions laws before you do such a thing. I was going to delete the EGR as soon as the warranty expired but I guess I'll save the expense for a couple of years since I have new parts. I'll delete it later.
Good luck finding another job. Sounds like the timing of this could not have been worse.
thanks a ton for the info. Whats a good EGR delete kit cost and where is the best place to get one? I think it may be something worth doing even if thats not the problem.. right?
PM me and I can help you out if you need the EGR cooler deleted and the oil cooler rebuilt.
The kit from first coast diesel looks good, and as of right now there is no talk of emmissions testing diesels up here. If you are worried about it in the future look into the bullet proof EGR cooler.
I just PM'd you about getting that other work done we talked about. I will have the truck checked out when its at your place next week and we can talk then. Thanks a ton man! I appreciate the help very much!!
