I have a 2006 F250 Super Duty with 5.4L Gas burner.
I bought this truck used. I bought a Hypertech Programmer for it, BUT, when i hooked the Hypertec up, it read my computer and would not work. I called hypertech, and they told me someone must have previously installed another programmer, but it wasnt a hypertech, and I cannot get my factory default settings that the hypertech needs to start with. They weren't much help, but the dealer did refund my money. I traced down the previous owner, and he said he never had a programmer on it. He was the second owner, first owner was a leasing company.
Sooo, What do I need to do ? How can i get my factory settings back>.? Or is there a programmer out there that will override all this mess and work for me? What do I need to do??. Thanks very much in advance. i am a new member and this is my first post.
Has anyone else heard of this situation? Or could I have had a bad--> new (hypertech) programmer?
I will do that if I have to ,Andrew, I was just hoping there was a programmer out there that would work regardless. I really dont know enough about the programmers anyway.
Yeah, It was for the F250, I beieve it was that part number.
I was wondering, if I go to the dealer and have them flash the PCM, how long will this take?
Also, what Programmer would any of you recommend for the 5.4L 3 valve engine in an 2006F250? I wasnt impressed with the customer service when i dealt with HT. What do any of you guys use as a programmer for the 5.4?

It will take approximately 30 minutes to re-flash the PCM. As for as tuners, contact Mike at 5 Star Tuning about the SCT X3 tuner with custom tunes.

Your best bet IMO is to go with an SCT tuner from a dealer that can actually help you with your issues and give you technical knowledge to solve any problems or questions you might have. You will not get that from the majority of the major tuning comapnies out there. There is probably nothing wrong with your truck and it probably doesn't need a reflash. The issue was probably operator error or fault with the tuner itself. Get ahold of 5 Star tuning and he will set you up. If you have any questions or issues Mike will work with you to get everything sorted out. Talking from first hand experience with him, great guy and great products. I would get the SCT Xcal3, I have experience with both the Xcal2 and Xcal3 and both work great and leave no hardware on the vehicle.
I believe I will do just that....Because I really dont think this truck ever had a programmer...They (hypertech) probably just told me that because it would not work....That Hypertech unit did not ask for a PCM code...... I am at work offshore now, but when i get home I am gonna call Mike.
I would like to be able to change from fuel mileage setting to towing, performance, etc..Will the xcal3 be able to do all these things, and will i be able to swap between them? The only mod i have on my truck is a K&N air filter.....
Thanks alot.

Just thought of it... Probably the reason the Hypertech didn't work was because it didn't support your trucks current strategy code.
The Xcal3 doesn't have the ability to switch tunes on the fly.(Most tuner can't change tunes on the fly, hypertech included) The X3 holds 3 tunes (might have expanded to 6 now) when you want to switch tunes you hook up the X3 to the ODBII port and reflash the pcm. It takes 2-5 minutes each time to reflash. The livewire is also an option, it tunes like the X3 but has a screen with all kinds of features on it. The livewire had some issues early on which I think they have ironed out by now. I just prefer the X3 because it leaves no hardware on the truck for everyone (including the dealer) to see. With 5 star you can choose what tunes you want for your truck. The basic choices are economy, performance or tow tunes in 87, 89, 91 or 93 octane fuel. You can e-mail 5 Star too, he answers his e-mails and knows what hes talking about unlike many other larger companies out there.
