Hypertech Programmer

My neighbor bought a Hypertech programmer off of E-Bay. Well the dumbing did not read the entire description of the programmer. The programmers memory had been drained by the previous owner. My neighbor plugged it in to his truck thinking that it would just program his ECM. Well after he screwed it up he called me over. I did some reserch and I went and read the description off of e-bay and it says that it needs to be reprogramned. The problem no is his truck will not start. It will crank over but it will not fire. The wait to start light does not even come on. I disconnected the battery already trying to reset the ECM but it still will not start. Does anyone have anyother Ideas.

Did anything happen with the programmer when he plugged it up? Did it ask if he wanted to install anything? If it did he may could reinstall and select the return to stock code and be ok. The Hypertech is supposed to store the factory code in the programmer when a preformace code is installed. It is their way of preventing sharing of the programmer.

It did not ask any questions it went right into the cheking for codes then it said there was no codes detected then it went in to trying to install the program from the other owners ECM. It went all the way through then the programmer gave an 6B error message then shut off.

I would contact Hypertec as soon as you can. I think they may can help recover the program. Until then I wouldn't take a chance on loosing what you got. Keep us posted.

I have used Hypertech Programmers a few times, when he plugged it in to the OBD-II port and pressed start it should have stated "tuner has programmed" in the display window. Is it possible that it's not the right programmer? maybe it's for a different vehicle or different year?. A ford dealer should be able to re-flash the ECM.
