30K Service

My truck is creeping up on the 30K mark & it is time for oil change, trans service & fuel filters. I was just going to go to the dealer & they want approx $400 for all that. Anything special/unique I should ask for (synthetics etc...)? Or anything else that it may need? My truck is baby'd (very little towing or hard miles).

Thanks for your input.

I bring my truck in to the dealer every 30K to have them do all the services so that I have some paper trail with them.
I run synthetic and my truck seems to like it.

You have an '04 and you don't even have 30K on it yet?

Wow mine just turned 140k. Do you "clean it out" every once in a while to keep the turbo freed up?

If by "clean it out" you mean stomp on the go-pedal, I'll do that occasionally. I actually had to have the turbo rebuilt & the dealer said it was because the truck sat too much. I try to drive it at least every week now...

Still looking for anything special though I need to pay attn to at 30K besides what's mentioned above...

Do you have a coolant filter system? CCV reroute? Fuel pressure gauge? These 3 things are important for longevity/PM. I'm sure there are a few others I'm forgetting. Synthetic oil is recommended, not mandatory though. Proper fluids, filters and fuel are a must, if you didn't already know.

when you service the tranny make sure they drop the pan & clean it out & put a new filter & pan gasket on it,ask to see the old parts just for the hell of it,tranny man, Gigger (I would run Ford ATF in there)

Mercon SP or the new LV is recommended
EDIT: Maybe get the updated drain plug for the HFCM, unless you have done that also. Fumoto valve for the engine oil pan? ( for ease of OC)

Thanks for the last 2 inputs...

I asked the dealer about the trans filter & they said the only filter is an external one (no pan gasket)... ? I read another thread that said to replace the filter o-ring too because of a potential leak.

How big of a project is a coolant filter system & CCV reroute? I'm assuing the fuel pump is prone to failure and that is why a fuel pressure guage is reccomended...? I do know it is not good to starve a diesel.

There are 2 tranny filters, internal and external. The internal is only good for filtering small logs, and is only "supposed" to be replaced at overhaul. However IIRC there is an 08-up internal filter that is a finer filter than the 03-07. Pan gasket IS reuseable. O-ring for external filter needs to be lubed prior to install, even then it might leak- mine did and I had to replace it. CCV is pretty easy, less than $15 in parts if you do the vent-to-atmosphere. Coolant filter- from dieselsite.com- is @ $120 and is highly recommended to filter out casting sand and debris from the block during the casting process. These write-ups can be found in the tech folder at the top of the forums page in red. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...ch-folder.html BTW, external filter housing is easily removed with an impact, a ratchet tends to seem like it wants to twist the housing off the framerail.

+1 for the diesel site kit. It took me about 40 mins to put it in. Very easy.

You are right- it IS Ford ATF, but the Torqshift needs the Ford Mercon SP which is being replaced by Mercon LV Some guys have/ are using other fluid with success, but thats you're call. IIRC member DSMMH is using RP (?) and he isn't having any trouble with it. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...-problems.html
