30,000 mile service:
1) Oil Change with new filter ($80.00)

2) Tranny fluid flush and ext. filter changed ($140.00)

3) Fuel filters changed - 2 of them ($120.00)

4) Maybe your airfilter - not required, but many do? ($80.00)

5) Rotate tires ($30.00)

6) Check vehicle over - (Free - Priceless!!!)

Prices are all approximate and from memory (Done at a dealer that is).

Yep... check your manual, but that should be it.

I do my own fuel and oil filters and since the air filters are so infrequent, I had the dealer do last time and they just did it in the driveway and cut me a deal. As for the tranny fluid and filter... I pay for them to do it and I just watch!!!

I sort of hate doing so much myself as my diesel techs are real nice and let me watch... but after watching them do the fuel and oil filter changes... I started doing it myself.

I would ask your dealer for a list of what they want to do and what the cost of each service is... just so you know and can compare!!

750 sounds about right from a dealership. I remember when I had my 30k done, but I also had to have 6 new tires too, 4 had no tread left and the other 2 had less then 5 percent tread left on them, so that jacked up my price to what y'all don't even want to know, but figuring I got 32k(it was basically the 30k, I was just behind a couple of k due to a road trip that brought me up to checkup time pretty quick from my last one and it was too soon, so I waited a few more k, most of which was highway miles so I don't think I did too much damage going over) out of the stock load E tires hauling mainly a horse trailer, but quite a bit with a flat bed with a JD 790 on it. A very long story short, that is about right having it done at the dealership.

See.. Oil and Filter I can do, thats easy..

The fuel worries me.. I read the write up but I don't understand it quit.. I was in the Army for 4 1/2 years and I know about Fuel/Water Seps.. You open the valve, drain it till clean fuel shows.. But in this write in the Tech Folder.. If your tank has any diesel its going to keep draining itself on your driveway right? How does the HCFM work?

It says to put the plug in after you put the new filter in..

Open drain plug and drain water and/or fuel and water. Will run for 1 - 4 minutes. Will not drain your tank... it takes the fuel pump to do that.

Open up large HFCM filter housing cap. Some fuel will drain out as well.

Remove cap and filter.

Replace o-ring and lube with motor oil.

Snap filter into cap and re-install (cramped for space).

Tighten all the way.

On top of motor, loosen small cap (large one is oil).. small one is fuel.. loosen and remove filter. Re-install new filter (may have to suck fuel out of bowl). Tighten cap.

Turn ignition on, wait 3 seconds and start.

No more than 1 - 2 pints MAY drain out when doing the large filter and plug.... always do the drain plug first then the HFCM filter.

Any recommendations on what type of container? Is it required for me to lift the driver side front axle?

It seems easy enough.. Does the O ring go in first or is the oring a seal for the actual cap ? You said lub it with same oil I use in the truck I persume? Rotella 15w40?

Also I see you have Radiator Shield? Where'd you get yours?

I just park on a flat driveway (mine)

I just use my oil drain pan, but others use a soda bottle or milk jug with the bottom cut off or at an angle like a "scoop" - but upside down so you can hold onto.

I use my regular motor oil (any will do)

The o-ring MUST go onto the cap first, then the tricky part is sliding the filter up in place, then the cap... then snap the filter into the cap BEFORE screwing the cap & filter assembly into place.

I do not raise, lower or tilt the drive train... I just work slow, say a few cuss words and "git-r-done".

So basically the fuel filter snaps into the cap.. But to be safe and do it easy you put the filter in first then the cap and snap it together up there.. I assume its a cramped area to work? I hadnt looked under there yet..

Add to this just before turn ignition on listed above..... Turn ignition on , wait 3 seconds, turn ignition off, wait 15 seconds then do it again for 3 cycles. This is to get all the air out of fuel system

Im wondering how you guys are getting these 140 dollar tranny flushes, I just paid 230 dollars for a flush and filter change, and it was the same from two other dealers I called.

I asked my Ford dealer what a tranny flush and filter change would cost. They asked how many miles I had, I'm about to hit 30K. They told me that the ATF does not need to be changed or flushed until 100k and I only need to change the external filter. They would change that filter for me for $100. Are they crazy??? I recall the owner’s manual stating at 30k miles to change the fluid and filters.
