Not sure where most AD users mount the unit. I bolted my AD2 directly to the outside driver side frame across from the rear of the transfer case. The X has a nice cavity there for the unit to fit into. I could not find a good place to mount it on the inside frame using the two provide plates .
So as many AD users have noticed, yours truly included, the AD makes more noise then the HPCM. I would say about 50% more noise. The HPCM utilizes three very small rubber sound isolators (RSI). So I thought why not do the same with the AD. So I go buy three 1.5" long X 1.5" diameter motor RSIs with 3/8" studs on each side that are 5/8" long. I removed the AD and mount and drilled an extra hole in the frame (be careful with lines and wire harness on the inside frame when drilling). Installed the three RSI using lock nuts and then installed the AD mount on to the RSI. What a difference. Sound level was less then the HPCM. Well worth the investment in RSIs and time to do this.
I would bet that if you were to pull the HPCM and find larger and better quality RSIs the HPCM noise would be almost non-existant.
I found the HPCM to be very easy to remove. Three electrical connectors, four fuel lines and three mounting bolts.
Got any photos or links to where you bought them???
Believe it or not I bought them at a local Amish electric motor repair shop.
The link below shows what I bought (not from this site). Look in the cylindrical display. The first one on the left is similar to what I used. The rubber portion is 1.5" in diamater and 1.5" long with 5/8" long 3/8" bolt studs.
Any appliance repair dealer should be able to order them. I used three in my application. They cost me less then $15 and took about two hours to install.
My air dog is whisper quiet and I cannot even hear it unless I am under the truck right next to it. Usually I have to feel the return line to make sure it is running.
some smart gents hanging in them thar there forumz.
I want to get the dog for my van, but I'm concerned about his bark too.
When I initially installed the AD2 I bolted it to the outside frame (4X4 makes it difficult to mount to the inside) and it was noisy. Now that it is sound isolated, it makes no more noise then the OEM pump.
Don't know about van mounting options but using the sound isolators makes a huge difference.
