update on 390 to 300 motor mounts

Took me half a day but I finally got the motor mounts in.
But I am going to have to redo them not happy with them.

Haven't figured out how to do signatures to tell what my project is yet...

1974 F-250 ext cab longbed. adding an 1988 fuel injected motor and mazdog manual tranny.

I moved the factory 390 motor mount perches to the forward mounting holes.
Note: the drivers side one will have to be welded because there is one of the bolt holes that lands on a corner of the cross member so the factory didn't drill that fourth hole.

I ordered after market 1974 300 motor mounts.

(which are actually 1975 mounts, the 300 is listed in 1974 but no motor mounts were listed for that year) 74 and 75 SHOULD be the same but maybe thats why they are not listed for a 74.

They are the 2441 and 2442 ones, I think were the numbers. I shouldn't have thrown the boxes out.
It seems the after market ones in an attempt to make them beefier added more rubber making them deeper. They also have an installed rivet to keep them from separating. Well this added width on the pads adds up to some serious fitting difficulties. The motor mounts wont drop into the perches because they end up too wide.

So what I did was mounted up the drivers side and bolted the mount to the perch. Then I removed the passenger perch and installed the perch and mount as one unit. Took Quite a bit of prying and banging but its in there now.

But there is so much preload on the motor mounts I know they wont last.

Was going to leave it at that but I am short on clearance between the two piece fuel injection intake manifold and the A/C box. I had to separate the intake manifold and remove the whole A/C heater core box just to set the motor.

So I will be off to Ford to try and see if I can get factory motor mounts that are skinnier and fit better. There are no six trucks in the yards, When scrap metal was high they all got crushed it seems.

BTW I had the motor and transmission way too far assembled to allow easy installation. Never will be a next time, but I'd install motor and trans separately and the motor should have been a long block only no manifolds on yet and I should have waited to install the harmonic balancer until it was in the truck.

I have to move the tranny cross member frame mounts aft a few inches but don't want to locate them until i have motor mounts in properly.
Gonna work on the wiring stuff for now as new mounts will have to wait on my next project budget allotment.

I do want a functioning AC system down the line at some point. So I'll have to see if the new mounts and possibly a little trimming on the intake will give me that extra little bit of room I need or If I'll have to do custom perches and possibly electric fans to get it to all fit. The AC cab is adding a lot of headaches that a reg heater only cab would not. I might have to reroute the evaporator tubes because the expansion valve sits right behind the intake currently.

I ran into exactly the same prob with the drivers side tower. Luckily I have a wire feed welder.

Sounds like you're in the thick of it. Good luck, and keep wrenchin'.

you ought to post some photos. Everyone loves to see them.

I have one too but I am not very good with it!! gotta have my buddy come over and do it right. Don't want it botched like the job I did adding a stiffener to the new hydraulic clutch or even uglier the 88 gas door I welded into my 74 truck bed to get rid of the slow fueling problems.

The gas tank filler botched job I'll have to have fixed when she goes in for paint somewhere down the road. Just not enough practice Mig welding to be any good at it yet grr

You might want to go online to LMC truck and take a look at their mounts. I've purchased a lot of their stuff.

Good luck.

wrong numbers quoted

Cool I'll check em out, thanks

btw emptied the shop cans. I found the original motor mount boxes.

The ones I bought that do not fit well are carquest.

31-3138 & 31-3139

2441 numbers must have stuck in my head reading others difficulties with those.

Well I received the 300 motor mount perches.

390 original mounts are on the left, while the replacement 300 are on the right.

The passenger side seems exactly the same. (you can see the red sharpie on the shop floor where I traced each sides outline to compare.

The drivers side is a bit different. I am now able to pick up all 4 mounting holes in the forward 300 position.

The 300 ones were still a bear to get attached to the motor mounts. But not as bad as it was cramming the motor into the 390 ones.

All in all it seems to be resting in the same position, if not just a touch more square.

Where mine did not line up to the holes I simply welded it in place.

I'm glad you found the right ones.

I realize this thread is five months out of date, but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having issues with the mounts.

First of all, the 2441 number you had stuck in your head is correct (supposedly) for the passenger side mount from Anchor, available through most parts stores. This mount is probably the same dimensions or possibly relabeled for Carquest.

Secondly, it's not the thickness of the rubber that is the issue. Did you ever compare the new mount to the old or was it not included with the inliner? What I found is that the metal bracketing is too long, the bottom two tabs at about an inch and the top at two or three inches.

Third, in my 1969 F100, the first swap from an FE to the inline only required moving my perches forward and reusing the crappy mounts. This is my second inline using new parts this time and the issue came up.

Finally, if you haven't gotten the issue fixed yet, try the mounts for a 1968-1976 Econoline van. At least the passenger side photos match to what I pulled from both the first swap and the 1978 F250 I pulled this second engine from. I'll be physically comparing tomorrow when I pick up the one side. I'll let ya'll know.

What we can assume is that the manufacturer information is completely incorrect for the mounts on 75 and newer trucks. By the way, I know of the trouble of finding the mounts for the older models. As in no part listings. If this Econoline mount matches, Anchor will get an email from me. I'm willing to bet it's the correct part. Also willing to bet nothing will be done about it.

300 motor mounts

I am having the same problem. The mounts I got from Bronco Graveyard are the 2441 and 2442, too big. What I found through Napa though is what we need are the 1st generation mounts for our trucks. Looks like they have the safety feature also. Will be picking these up Friday. AND WILL POST THE RESULTS. Check out their web site, the only place I could find the smaller, correct mounts

There is indeed a mount now listed with O'Reilly as an alternate option for the trucks that match exactly to what we need (or rather, what I pulled from a 1968 and 1978) for both dentside and bumpside. The part numbers are 2331 and 2332.

When I went to pick my new mounts up, I checked their systems and found these now listed as a secondary option. Just now in checking their site to verify numbers, the compatibility now lists for the 1968-74 models years in the F100, but it does not list for F250 or F350 let alone for 1975-79. Anchor probably recently changed their fitting information because this was not the case when I went looking around a few weeks ago.

I assure you through experience, these 2331 and 2332 numbers are the mounts for 1968-1979 all models using the 240/300. The downside is that the rubber pad is much smaller than the 2441 and 2442 and the stud mounting to the perch is also the safety catch instead of another large rivet for the job.

between work and budgeting, just now getting back to the white whale.

Big thanks for the find on the right mounts. Gonna pick up a set.

Gotta redo a couple steps, wasn't happy with how a few things looked but hope to make some progress this month.

Thanks

Just a suggestion for next time (may B as a 1st step) to contact our FTE member "Numbers Dummy" (Bill) who has all prts numbers and even connections to 'obsolete prts dealers' nation wide. Seems to B retired from 30 or so yrs of that wrk & still stays connected (to our advantage).
Good Luck w/the project. Keep in touch.

The 2331 and 2332 mounts worked like a champ. Motor now drops down into the perchs like it is supposed to.

The only thing I had to do was notch the drivers side mount to clear the knock sensor. Which I only encountered since I am putting an efi model in. Those putting carbed versions won't have that problem.

Installed new slave cylinder, and clutch kit into the 5 speed and got the tranny mounted up.

Not happy with the tranny cross member mount location I had fabbed up. Rides too high. So I'll have to either move the cross member mounts again, or find a shorter tranny mount. I welded the cross member hangars too well, they are gonna be a bear to remove and move grr haha

79 ford f250 4x4 300 six cyl motor mounts needed

I have the 2441 and 2442 motor mounts on my 79 f250 with 300 engine and 4 speed manual and the driver side 2442 mount is so fat that my engine sits one inch higher on the drivers side. I had to raise the clutch crossover bar frame bracket up one inch to keep it straight and aligned correctly with ball on engine. Can i use the 2331 and 2332 motor mounts and have the engine sit like it came from the factory. I just want to be sure they fit right before i order them. they look different with a stud, nut and lock washer attached, thanks for any input.
