When braking hard at approximatly 45-55 miles per and turning the wheel when exiting the freeway my steering wheel locks up and takes considerable amount of effort to unlock it. It has happened twice now and I haven't experimented with taking the foot off the brake when this happens to see if it releases. Has anyone experienced or heard of this issue and does anyone have any suggestions what might be causing it.
thanks
below is more description of problem
The best way I can explain it is if you were parked against the curb and your turning the wheel towards the curb and the steering wheel stops in your hands when the tire contacts the curb. Only this happens when braking hard and turning the wheel when coming off the highway on an exit ramp, and if I apply a fair amount of force to the steering wheel it releases and allows me to turn the wheels further. It is not like have the steering wheel locked like when the vehicle is not running. When this happens I can turn the sterring wheel back the other direction with no restrictions. I hope this better explains it.

I've had plenty of steering probs with my '08 F250. Been to the dealer numerous times with excessive play in the steering, having to use more muscle to bring the wheel back to center, the truck having too much lean to one side, noise when braking (loading of front suspension) and last but not least, clunking in the drivetrain. REAL NICE! grrrrr. After the many attempts to the dealership and talking to regional Ford rep and him checking it out and replacing the steering gear box, he says there is nothing wrong with anything. I purchased a brand new travel trailer at the same time as my F250 and havent been able to tow because I do not feel safe one bit. I had a few scarey instances and chose to not tow till the issue gets resolved.
So last night, I finally types a letter and sent it certified to Mr Alan Mulally (CEO). We'll see just what happens next.
All I can say is... dont lose out on work hours and sleep like I did. Move up the chain quickly. I've owned seven fords in my life time. This is a problem for me.
It's a 5.4L. Yes, I've rotated the tires. They said they checked the steering stabilizer.
Long story short... When I purchased it and drove it from the overflow lot to the main lot, I didn't notice it or I wouldn't have walked out of there with it. It was late at night when we were doing the paperwork and was wondering why it took so damn long for it to be washed and preped. Even after I was done with the paperwork, I still had to wait. When we got to the lot and handed the keys to the porter he said it would be real quick cause nobody else had to have thiers preped. Did they screw something up? Run it hard into a curb or something or did a switch-a-roo with one of the other 3 exact models that were parked next to it in the overflow lot to give me a screwed up one? I've thought of everything. Anyhow, I drove off the lot and hopped on the 405 south to go home. As soon as I got on the freeway, It was crazy. It takes a lot of work to keep the damn thing going straight. I called the dealer within 10-15 mins and he said they had locked up for the night. That's when the nightmare began!
A H development,
Thanks for the welcome! This is the first steering issue I have experinced with my truck. Except for the wheel bouncing when you I run over the expansion joints while steering around an exit loop which ford's answer is thats normal just reduce speed when taking exits which normally pisses off the traffic behind me.

Sorry to hear about all your problems I have been pleased overall with my truck. But I also am having the clunking issue in the drive train which i assume is u-joints but haven't checked that out yet.
Hopefully someone in this forum has had this issue or heard about my issue. I don't want to spend a lot of money letting ford try to figure this out for me since my truck is no longer under warranty
