this is link for vin checker.

As for your Q as to whether 1st is an l or a 1 it's a 1.
1=us
2=canada

You're also missing 1 letter or number in the vin. It should be 17 characters long. You have 16.

I've never heard of a 8.0L international in a Ford.
6.9 & 7.3 yes but 8.0???

Post 8.0 international diesel????

All diesels that came in Ford light trucks were International/Navistar's. The 6.9 was offered from 83-87, then the 7.3 from 88-up. The early 7.3's were more prone to cavitation, which is small pinholes formed in the block. Use of a coolant additive prevents this. Other than that issue, they are very good engines and very reliable.

The "Powerstroke" is the same engine as the Navistar. They started out with a few flaws, but they haven't really changed. They made some minor improvements and added a turbo which makes a huge difference in performance, and named it the Powerstroke. Case bought International except the highway engine division, and had control of the International name and IH symbol, so the name Navistar was used. Anyway, it's all the same-International, Navistar, Powerstroke. You can buy an aftermarket turbo kit and have the same performance as a new one.
It might be worth your time to have a compression test run on it. A diesel started with ether or run without an air filter for any length of time could be ruined.
