I have a 2002 Expedition with 4.6L engine with 85000 miles. I just replaced all the spark plugs and COP's as a preventive maintenance measure. Before I replaced them it was running fine and had no service engine light on. Once I replaced them the light came on after about 20 miles. Engine idles and runs great. I disconnected the battery to reset the light however after about 50 miles it came on again. Looked for loose or cracked vacuum lines and everything looks good. Reset light again and made a road trip with it and light came on at 220 mikes into trip. Engine still runs and idles great.
Took vehicle to autozone this time and it came up with a PO405 code. "ECM has detected the EGR position sensor voltage was to low"
Question is should I replace the EGR valve or what?
Any help would be appreciated.
Lots of things to check before replacing the EGR valve. Could be the valve, EGR sensor, wiring or a vacuum problem. Need to get the book out with a meter and vacuum gauge to troubleshoot it. Did you pull any wires loose or knock any vacuum lines off while changing the plugs or COPS?
Thanks Hotstang & Project. I did go back and look over everything again from the COP & spark plug replacement and it looks like I had swapped the 2 vacuum lines that go to the DPFE sensor. Put them back like they were supposed to be and reset the light and so for it hasn't come back on.
Thanks for your time.
