I had to put new tie rod ends on both sides of my truck. Now, judging by tire noise and wear, I believe I need to reallign the front end.
So, where do I measure from?
Or how do you do it?
The easiest thing for your F250 is to take it somewhere to get the toe set. You can do it at home but depending on what tie rod arrangement you have it can be easy or a PITA.
If it's a long tie rod connecting both wheels and a drag link going from the tie rod to the steering gear then it's the easy one.
The easiest and most accurate way is to clean off your tires good and jack each one up and paint a line right in the middle of the tread with some white spray paint. Then scribe a line in the middle of that while you are spinning it.
Then all you have to do is measure it in the back then front with a tape measure and adjust the tie rod till you are 1/16 to 1/8 inch toed in. That is 1/16 less in the front than in the back.
Then you can eyeball it down the sides of the tire to set your steering wheel back on center with the drag link adjuster. Do NOT take off the steering wheel to do that. In fact you should take off the horn pad and the nut and make sure the alignment marks are lined up anyway before you center it down below. A lot of alignment shops do this by moving the wheel and it is the wrong way! Unless you like dog tracking.
