You won't get better MPG's, faster spooling, increased horsepower, or whiter teeth from the housing. The larger intake is due to a bleed ring which is how it helps with your surge.
What do you mean the surge has diminished? Surge either happens or it doesn't. Are you saying it happens less frequently now, or there's a sound that you're referring to that is no longer as noisy? Have you got a boost gauge? How does it act when the noise occurs?
I do not have a boost gauge...
It would make the fluttering sound when the trans shifted from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, etc... or if pulling my 5th wheel over 55mph (constant flutter...) Now you REALLY have to try and get it to make the fluttering sound when it shifts gears... Its actually the typical whoosh shound than a flutter now...
Sounds like you may not really be dealing with surge. If it's just barking a little at shifts, that's not really surge. If you had constant turbo surge when driving over 55 with a trailer, you would have blown your turbo by now. Tightening up the boots on the IC plumbing might have fixed a boost leak, which can help in performance and MIGHT have an effect on sound. Did you tighten all 6 boots or just the 4 on the pipes?
Here's a video of what surge sounds like

It would make that chattering sound at shifts almost exactly like in video you posted... As far as diminishing by 75%, I meant that it happens about 75% less frequently as opposed to how loud it is. I only tightened up the boots on the upper, not the lower...but I'm gonna tighten them up a tad also... I still plan to replace the housing with an ATS ported regardless... a few hundred bucks is well worth the peace of mind.
