I've been thinking about putting duals on my SRW for better stability and general peace of mind while towing our 5er. I went yesterday afternoon and looked at a decent '01 bed.
Somebody on the local Craigslist is parting out a '99 E 350 dually. They say they're asking $500 (obo) for the rear end. Anybody know if that would be a bolt-on swap?
That is a good price on the rear end, as long as it doesn't have like a million miles on it. The frame for the F350 single and dually is the same width, so it should be a direct bolt in job. Measure everything first just be sure. Another thing to remember is you will have to add the spacers on the front axle if you want all the wheels to match.

Thanks. That's what I needed to know. I bought a set of front spacers and Ford five spoke alloy dually rims off the local Craigslist for $250 back around Christmas time. So I'm covered there.

2X4, looks like I need to edit my signature. But yeah, I figured that would have to at least go through it and maybe put my gears in it. My truck tows just fine, and I actually like the 3.73s for highway cruising.
The plot thickens. Just got off the phone with the guy, its a cab & chassis.
I guess I can pay a pro to move the perches if I can get the rear end cheap enough. The overall width from hub to hub is the same, isn't it?
I've never owned a dually. Are the e-brakes on F 350 duallys on the calipers or driveshaft? The guy still has the e-brake setup off the van, but I may have to pull the ripcord if this gets to be too much of a hassle.

On my dually, the e brake cable goes to the inter part of the rotor, where the e brake pads are located.... has no connection to the caliber.
Why dont you measure inside to inside of the spring perches and then compare what your is to the duallies. If I had my truck here with me I could give you the measuement but it is 700 miles away. I dont know with the cab and chassis if the frame is narrower or not on a 350, I think the 450 and 550 it is. It would also be a different rearend if it was a 450 or 550. The e brake is inside of the rotor on my 350.
The e-brake is a separate set of shoes in the dually hub, just to be clear.
Ok, thanks. That's the part I missed. The guy's ad says that he has "Emergecy Brake that bolts onto trans" (his spelling, not mine) so the van obviously had a different setup. I'm guessing its something that sets the driveshaft like on the bigger trucks. Again, it may be more headache that its worth unless I want to just eliminate the e-brake. No vehicle inspections in FL. Not a good idea, I know.

Thanks. That's a big help. I'm at work, brainstorming about my truck. The guy said he has to work late all week so I won't get to go check it out until next weekend. That's why I seem to have so many questions and no answers.
