Too much power - you feeling ok?

Nice try, but you will have to get your own moose.

I'm phoning some auto wreckers so we'll see what turns up.

I'm in business!

One of the wreckers has an 87 with the right engine and tranny and offered to pull the flexplate for $150 (or $100 if I did the work).

I show up to give a deposit and ask if he has anything loose from behind a 7.3 IDI, he says no but calls one of his yard hands to the front after I explain that this model uses a 2 piece setup with on being the cast iron flywheel, and the other being a bolt on stamped steel plate to engage the torque converter bolts. All I need is the stamped steel piece but he understood I wanted the cast iron peice.

His guy walks in and the two of them talk about a 7.3 IDI that had an extra part on it that they weren't sure what to do with. The owner turns to me and asks if I would know the part if I saw it. maybe...

I walk out to their shop with the mechanic and while he tries to remember where he put it in the shelf of other flywheels I pick up the exact flex plate that I need. "thats it" he says. Perfect. Painted on it is "7.3 ford". Got it for $75 and at home I confirm that its 100% identical to what I had. Going to have a good meal and head out in the evening to put my beast back together.

Should have it running tomorrow.

Someone had that exact problem, minus the pictures a while back.

I remember they thought it was a starter problem cause it made a terrible noise when they were cranking the engine over.

Well, I guess I feel a little better then. I don't suppose he was running a turbo as well, was he?
Mine sure made a horrible racket the last time I started it up to move it a few feet all the way into the shop. Cranking was normal, but the idle sounded like a thrown rod.

I've got the tranny back in, driveshaft, and cooler lines. I spaced the flex plate off from the converter face this time. Maybe it will help because the hub bolts from the hub were still touching the hub of the converter. Maybe that vibration was what threw it over the edge, I dunno.

Still need to put the converter nuts on, electrical and shift linkage. That happens tomorow morning.

You should use NEW pinch nuts on the converter bu if you don't have them be sure to use locktite or some kind of thread lock.

I'll locktite them for now. Good news is those are very easy to reach after everything is back together so they can be replaced later.

I have an updated "blue" seal on it. Not sure if that would make a difference here.
