I have a 1989 bronco i have a vibration that occurs at 35mph 45mph and anything over 55mph but occasionally it will disappear with extended driving times usually over 45mins i have recently replaced u-joints and have turned the slip yoke both ways it could go as well as turned both ends of driveshaft multiple times and greased thoroughly. With the rear driveshaft removed it doesnt vibrate at all please help im out of ideas.
dumm question ..did you line the joint's front to back? I didn't and got a vibe that drove me nut's till a buddy pointed out that the u-joints have to be in line front to backthe slip joint on mine was out of phase(as he called it)can you post a picture ? of the drive shaft it helps a lot..
I personally installed u-joints and yes they are the right ones and the driveshaft is in fact in phase on the slip yoke the wheels and tires are new only have 6000 miles on them they came from summit racing and it did it before i put new wheels/tires so im almost positive that is not the problem.
Man,I just pulled my driveshaft today for the same reason. The vibration was relatively minor, just enough to make cars in the rearview blurry, but aggravating.
I test drove it without the rear shaft just to confirm and knew immediately that was the problem.
After closely examining the U-joints,I saw that the rear one was very slightly off center and the retainer clip wasn't thoroughly seated on one end. After fixing this,I could see for miles.Good luck with yours.
Thanks i will check for that. For once im actually hoping that i screwed up and they are not centered. And i forgot to mention that the vibration is so bad i cant run over 55mph it shakes too bad.
I recently had a similar problem, replaced all the joints still had the shakes. Took it to a Dan's Driveline here in Vegas. The guy told me that someone had performed a Hercules on the straps. And that was not allowing the joints to spin freely. I let him know that that guy would be severely beaten.
