I just got a really cheap toploader from a friend along with a an unidentified as of now 4 speed with granny gear t18?? not a t19.
Back to the toploader, it is an overdrive 4speed. I know the 3-4 brass syncronizer is shot. Teeth are gone, Everything else looks perfect in there. I'm not sure what he did to wipe out that syncronizer... I'd like to rebuild it on the cheap. It is a smod steel cased with the side shifter/ tailhousing is in the truck position.. does anyone have some instructions? or experience rebuilding them?? The cheapest kits are $100 the more expensive ones run $200.
I do have another unit here but I sold it , maybe. (deposit on it but, guy had a heart attack) I sold it mostly because I could not find a shifter in the correct spot for my F1.
Anyone close to me want to have a few beers and help me rebuild it?
Google your transmission along with the word rebuild. I rebuilt my T5 Woldclass last year at about this time by using information that I gleaned form the internet. The biggest obstacle was having a big enough press to press the gears off of the shafts. To put them back on, I threw them into the toaster oven(I use it to powder coat small parts) set at about 400 degrees for about ten minutes. They expanded enough to just slide on. You might also need a dial gauge with a magnetic base to check for end-play. Don't buy the cheap Advance Auto throw-out bearing that's made in Mexico; you'll have to replace it within months. The &^#@( thing mad it sound like I had a diesel engine. Even though it was under warranty, there was no way I was putting another one in my Mustang.
