I recently heard from someone that an early Ford toploader four-speed transmission has a dual bolt pattern, and one of them bolts right up to a Y-block bellhousing.
Can anyone verify this? If so, what transmissions will work? And will they bolt up to a 3-speed bellhousing or a 4-speed?
Also, if installed in a '60 F-100, would shifter location be an issue? I'm running the stock bench and don't want to change that.
they are very easy to put in a car.in a truck they bolt up to the 3 speed bell,.the truck throw out bearing is different and you have to do work to the fork.
This is a toploader site. I have linked you to where he discusses the 4 speed OD trans patterned on the earlier car performance unit. Scroll down there and see a pic of the early vs. the later OD trans. He mentions the early, or "true" toploader has the 8 hole bell to trans mount. That, methinks, answers part of your question. He has lots of other info, and he has a tower mount shifter for PU use. Not cheap, but this ain't JC Whitney or the local scrappy....
