Okay I have a 1996 Ford Aerostar Cargo. All of the sudden one day it wouldn't shift into reverse and D, 1, 2 is ONLY 1st gear will not go out of first gear. Neutral and Park of course function correctly.
I hooked up my Ford WDS Diagnostics computer and found that it gave a bad error for either Transmission Range Sesnor (Neutral Safety Switch) or linkage, and the linkage looks good.
Does this sound like the case, anytime a NSS went bad before on my cars it didn't shift out of park or other things.
Is it likely that OR is the transmission finally burnt up after 210k? Fluid looks ok.
In 96 they went to the all electric shift tranny. The Tranny range sw tells the computer what to do if its bad you may have issues.. They do fail its on the driverside...
