I know a lot of people ask but here we go again. What is involved in the swap and how much do i have to change. I was thinking about the zf tranny but would also like to here suggestions on tranny selection.
The truck is a 95 f250, 351w on its 4th E4OD and soon ready for its 5th. Got to go manual! The dealer's service dept. says its because is of the larger tires (I went to 255/85/r16, which are 34 in high) But these tires are only two inches greater than the stock 235's which are 32 in high.
The truck is used for snowplowing and for towing a gooseneck trailer.
Will,
I've got a 93 f350 diesel crew 4x4 with the A4OD, and I've been considering that same solution.
Every so often on a high speed drive down the interstate in the summer,(with and without heavy trailer loads) I seem to blow out from half to 3/4ths of my trans fluid. The last time a kept driving too long, and after refilling, the front seal now leaks regularly. That seems to be where it was blowing out while it was hot the previous times.
Also, without a manual trans, this nonturbo diesel just seems to be week, Especially after getting out of a 390 or 460 truck.
