Do NOT weld your wheel bearings to the spindle!!!!
#16
Ouch. That happened to me once on my '78 F-250. I knew the rear wheel bearing was going but I just had to make it to the cabin with 50 miles to go late at night. Big mistake. The bearing race welded itself right to the axle housing. Fortunately my neighbor up at the cabin was used to working on heavy equipment and pulled the rear axle housing. Later I went to a local junkyard for another housing and I let them swap out the guts. Another big mistake. They stole my 4.10 gears. I found out when I put it into 4WD on a gravel road. The entire drive train bound up super tight from the difference between the front and rear gears. After some serious coaxing I got it back into 2WD and went back to the lousy thieves and demanded my gears back. Although they didn't admit any guilt, they were miraculously able to find the gears and put them back in. Lesson learned. Good luck with your truck.

GOT IT!!
Had to cut a couple inches off the hub for clearance. That was fun....trying to cut through cast iron with the broken off steel bolts still inside. What a mess. Anyways, I started grinding....and it turns out there was a nut somewhere behind all that weld. So, I kept grinding until I could see a faint line between the welded nut and the spindle.
Then I started whacking it with a hammer and chisel.
A little more grinding....and a lot more hammering....and finally got it off. It's not as bad as I thought. Should be able to have it repaired fairly easy. Not much more trouble than having my Dana 60 spindles bored out.
