Yea that is how the one I currently have is set up because my box is out. I will leave the box on it so it can be used automatic for when someone else drives it.

If the electronics are all hooked up and functioning the unit has a manual mode and auto mode. In auto it automatically kicks in and out of overdrive between set speed parameters. In manual mode you can kick it in and out with a floor switch to split gears between the same speed parameters.
To learn more you can go to GearVendors website for their speal.
If every thing is hooked up you can use it either way. I do not have my automatics hooked up so I use it like a two speed. But you have to remember to kick it out before you get under 20 mph, which mine still does automatically. If I am running empty I only use it after I get in high gear.
Crew The one I traded for is going into a project that won't even be started until next year, but I am going to want to freshen it up before I install it. So I may be hollering at you. I think fone fiddy has been through one too.
how come you have to kick it out under 20 MPH? to high of gearing? Does it give to 2 completely new gear ratios to add to your transmissions ratios or does it give you ratio to run with your transmission?

I'm going to keep this simple but the o/d units have there own pump that creates the 400+psi to operate the clutch inside. Low speed=low pressure=slipped clutch=$200+.
Make sense?
These units give you straight through or overdrive.
It runs off a pump in the rear, so at under 20 mph it does not have enough hydraulic pressure and will slip(damage) the clutches. And yes it gives you a overdrive top gear good for about 500 rpm's and splits the other gears like a 2 spd rear does.
If I keep the fourspeed in my dually I have a gas four speed that I will install if my clutch ever goes bad, or if I was to start pulling heavy loads. The granny and reverse are way lower and the gear splits are wider, so if you could split them you would have the best of three worlds. A lower gear for idling off with a heavy load and splits so your ratios don't kill you when you shift and an overdrive, I'm thinking for pulling fair sized loads this would be about the best setup available for our rigs.
