Milt, Im new to the diesel trucks i bought me a 87 f-250 with a c-6 its 4x4. And she tachs real high at highway speeds. about 2600rpm @ 65mph. is this something i could use, I guess first is the gear vendor an overdrive unit? and is it applicable to my truck? Im not a dummy at mechanics, just never worked with diesels. Im just now cutting my teeth with the changing of glow plugs and relay. Thanks for any info
Yes it is very applicable and yes it is overdrive although they make an underdrive too.
I have one on my 86 4X4 and it drops the high gear app 500 rpms. you can also split the gears after 20 mph giving you 5 or maybe even 6 gears with that c6. You can't however use it while your in 4x4 only changes the ratio after the Tcase to the rear wheels.
As far as I am concerned it is the best thing since sliced bread where our old diesels are concerned.

Yes, it is an OD. Its great for a C6, it would take your 3 speeds and make it 6.
They are about $3,000 new, I have not looked for a used one.
It is two wheel drive but it will turn into four wheel drive with either a ZF5 (which I have one) of a ZF6 if I find a decent deal on one.(Ijust missed one last week) and gearvendor with probably 4.56 gears.
Bill I will probably pull a camper and boat some, but I like to be able to do whatever I need to at the time. I have said for years that if I ever fimd a 73 to 79 crew with factory air that I would build the last pickup I ever want, but I just wanted a rust free body as the motor and running gear will all be newer. The next year will be just finishing up gathering up the rest of the parts I need as money allows. I still need for sure a D60 and would like a ZF6 and probably seats out of a 05 or 6 crew and of course the gear sets and a hydroboost setup. It has to have a bodylift and highboy springs, so I have to wait and see what size tires I will need before I decide for sure on the gears.
Bill This gv unit is not exactly the one I want for the crew, If I find a ZF6 I want one that goes in place of the carrier bearing. If I use a ZF5 this one will be better. I still have to get the right adapter though.
