Have 2000 Excursion, V10, sorry i do not know what model tranny i have. Have an issue when i press the OD button on the steering column. While in park, the light comes on, indicating OD off, but as soon as i move the gear shift to drive, it turns off. Nothing happens when i press it while in drive. Overdrive will not turn off. Truck runs in overdrive ok, but when i have the need to tow, i can't turn it off now.
On a side note, today on my way to work, cruise set at 70, truck in OD, all of a sudden the truck jerked going down the highway, giving the feeling like the tranny slipped, but only did it once. From a stop, under hard accelleration, i do not feel any slipping at all.
I'm no mechanic, so any help/ideas are appreciated. Thinking i may need to see a tranny shop or my dealer tho....
seems funny tho that it would make a connection while in park, but as soon as you move the selector to go into gear, it doesnt work? if there were loose wires, would that cause that sudden jerk going down the road??...maybe it tried to make a connection and was trying to come out of OD??...
The wires are known to break at the steering column and that would be my best guess. As you say, maybe wires making contact momentarily while driving.
Hopefully some of the experts will give an opinion.
