I recently bought a 2wd '93 Ranger that has a 4.0 and an automatic transmission. It most likely could use a new engine.
Will any OHV 4.0 work? No issues with bellhousing pattern? Balancing? Will my current accessories mount to it?
A guy on craigslist has a 4.0, but has no idea what it's from. He said the engine has "4.0 Liter" on it, I'm guessing maybe on the intake. My engine doesn't have "4.0 Liter" anywhere on it.
A little info..( as I read it..have done it ....yet) basically 95 and up you want the computer and all the sensors and brackets 90-94 you can use you sensors,brackets & computer except if one has egr and the other does not.Ford Ranger 4.0L V-6 Engine Swap
A few more things to keep in mind regarding the 4.0L OHV:
- '95+ have a black composite upper intake. Prior years have an aluminum intake.
- '94 and earlier years don't have an EGR setup ('94 CA models are the exception);
- '94 and earlier years were not equipped with sequential fuel injection, but instead used a "batch" injection system. As such, there is no camshaft position sensor/synchronizer assembly on those older engines (again, '94 CA models are the exception);
and remember you need the right flywheel /pressure plate for your transmission ...so keep the one off the old engine if you are keeping the original transmission
