is there a spacer that goes between the harmonic dampener and the timing chain cover? i saw that you install one in one book then in another it didnt mention it at all

Yes & some of them have a offset weight on them. It depends on whether it's a internal or external balanced motor.

to add to marks response if the block casting number is D9TE it should have the hatchet weight spacer, any other block casting should be just s straight spacer.
