for a while my 02 f-350 has been acting weird. going 30 thru town at an even throttle the engine kinda dies a bit comes back and repeats all the time... RPM gauge drops about 200rpms when this happens.... it is just brief but continuous. I add fuel additive every fill up, replaced fuel filter, TPS in summer time was replaced. Also today while plowing...when i shifted from reverse to drive and hit the pedal it died. it started back up after a little extra cranking time....this happened 4 times today.
no... i actually got another recall letter the other day about it. I thought everyone said the new ones suck.??
I think the consensus is the new ones do suck, but they do fail and that's why the recall. But most of us decided to stay with the old one until it failed. Yours may be failing. I would say let 'em replace it, see if that helps, and then see if you can find a gray one, or is it the black one? Brain dead tonight. Someone else will correct me. When you get the "good" one, replace the factory recall cps.
Besides the CPS another thing to check would be the 42 pin connector and the wiring harness leaving each side of it. This connector is below the air intake hose above the driver side valve cover. Check the harness for chaffing and make sure the connector is tight. The harness has been known to rub on the valve cover and also on the inboard side of the bracket holding it. The diagram shows the connector with the intake tube removed from air flter housing.
I was dealing with a very similar issue. I was working on some other issues with my truck and checked the 42 pin connector. The 10mm bolt that holds it together was about 2-3 turns loose. Check it out
Mines doing the same thing.
It almost feels like its just coasting sometimes then it kicks in and away it goes.
I notice it going downhill and its only for a second or so, not enought to really pinpoint what its doing?
P1211 -- IPR -- ICP pressure above/below desired -- IPR valve failed, stuck, or shorted to ground
2 out of 3 point toward the accelerator pedal. I would start there.
0122 is a fault with the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor)
0221 Is a fault with the IVS (Idle Validatiob Switch)
You either need a new IVS switch or a new TPS. Both are on the loud pedal. I don't know if they are separate on a 2002. I know on my E99 they are separate parts.
Both these codes can be caused by dirty conacts. If you can get at the contacts a good spraying with electrical contact cleaner may suffice.
I'm sure some who has experienced this will chime in.
The 1211 is most likely caused by your tuner asking for more ICP then your HPOP can deliver. Its common and won't hurt anything,
BUT something to look at if it is not the IVS or TPS.
EDIT: Someone pulled the codes and woldn't even tell you what they were. Would that be an extra charge?
Also today while plowing...when i shifted from reverse to drive and hit the pedal it died. it started back up after a little extra cranking time....this happened 4 times today.
Does the pitch of the engine change? Sounds to me like it may also be a fuel pump going bad... have you tried a good 3/4+ throttle launch to see how the truck reacts. If your fuel pump can't keep up the engine sound should "ping" a lot more as it's starving for fuel.
