Alright im trying to help one of my brothers friends out. He has a 06 f250 with a 5.4 3v that needs a motor. A couple of mechanics who have looked at the truck have said that this motor is hard to find bc it was only used for 6months in the truck or something so is that true? Also will any other 5.4 3v bolt up out of something else?
The 3V 5.4 was used in Super Dutys from '05- present. AFAIK, they are all the same in that range. I'm not sure if the F150 version is exactly the same or not, though I suspect it is. Others here will know for sure.
Get a new mechanic. It sounds like a mechanic wants to take a dip into your brothers savings account.
First of all, what specifically is wrong with the existing engine? The 3V engines are pretty stout. I have not heard of any having to be totally replaced. Short of throwing a rod through the block or snapping a crankshaft, why does this mechanic recommend just replacing the engine and not repairing or rebuilding it?
If you really do need to replace it, you should be able to use any 3V 5.4L engine from a 2005+ F-250 or F-350. Just make sure you keep the bolt on parts from the original engine (accessories, intake and exhaust manifold, stuff like that) and reuse them.
Just wondering..how many miles are on it and what happened to it?
I believe the 05 and up 5.4l are the same
It was one my brothers friend truck and they told him something about a problem with a freeze plug and it let coolant get into some cylinders and bent rods i aint sure how many miles were on it.
