A switch and a relay.
keyed power source through a switch (so you deactivate this overide mod) that controls a relay. The relay will turn on the park lamps and head lights by the key on.
You need to splice into both of your headlight wires with a relay (one for each, I'm thinking). Then send switching power to the relay from a switched 12V source. I can't remember the current of each bulb, but a 20 or 30A relay should do it.
Do it right at the switch. The relay would be your imaginary fingers. Wire the relay to "MAKE" on key on, by a key on source.
Edit. Something like this should work.
The existing switch is like a manual relay. You would just be jumping in a relay to over ride the manual portion by a Key on source.
I just don't like the idea of the lights on while trying to start. I don't think it will hurt anything though
not to hijack the thread but how can i wire after market foglights to the light switch where you pull out in order to activate ? ( where stock fog's would be lockated) my truck didn't come with any.

You can't if it's a pre '01 truck. I found that light switch does nothing when you pull the **** out, even though it seems like it should. Pop tried this and found the insides of the switch aren't set up for it. I guess you'd have to totally splice in a newer switch and pigtail and be creative with the wiring. I ended up triggering my fog light relay to come on with the parking lights.
