'08 Trailer Tow Mirrors

I washed my '08 F-350 in a brushless wash yesterday in single digit temperatures. Ever since then my driver side mirror finds it easy to bounce away from the deployed position. The wash arm did bump and break it back just a bit. I'm towing my 5er with the mirrors extended all the way out.

Did that break back damage something? Or is it possibly iced up? If bumping it back damaged something, is the assembly repairable or does it have to be replaced?

The fold operation does function normally, all the way in and out.

Thanks!

Larry,

I'm not sure if I followed your post correctly, but,,,

If it's the mirror that's "bouncing away" then the below link might help you out.
It shows how-to remove the mirror itself so you get in behind it to take a look.

Thanks! My problem, however, is where the mirror support arms pivot at window glass. You can fold the whole assembly back against the glass for tight places. Mine wants to bounce away from deployed position. Hope this clarifies it a little.

Thanks again.

Not sure what to think. did you actually put your hand on it and try to move it around to ensure it is locked in place?

Are they power folding mirrors? From your post, it doesn't sound like it. Perhaps water got the "spring mechanism" (for lack of abetter term) and froze it in the "compressed" position, so that it's not locking the arm once deployed?

Thanks guys. It must have been ice, because I think it's come out of it. I can't move it with moderate hand pressure now, and was driving 500 miles when it was doing it. Didn't think about trying to move it by hand whenever I'd stop then.

Larry,

If curiousty is getting the best of you, you could warm it up using blow dryer (medium heat might be wise). I'm sure a few minutes with a blow dryer would free it up to at least test it if it is ice that's causing the problem.
