Hi I just bought a truck and wonder what you all think. It is a 1995 f 250 4x4 5 speed powerstroke.260k miles interior good front good drives better than my 2000 f350 7.3 bed is well serously rusted above wheel wells. It runs great and is quite powerful hard to start when cold and wts light doesnt stay on for more than 5 seconds so i know i need some glow plugs. the guy i bought it from said the motor was junk cuz it used a lot of oil. im saying it needs injector o rings cuz the fuel in filter boul is black like engine oil. and it runs way too good and has no smoke blow by isnt too bad either. anyone hav any ideas on the oil consumption? I only gave 1k for the trk so i kno i didnt get hurt. what do you all think?
thanks
chris
the wait to start light is a dummy light and it staying on for 5 seconds doesn't mean thats how long the glow plugs stay on. You need to test the Glow plug relay with a multimeter to find out exactly how long the glow plugs are getting power for. Also i would check the continuity of the glow plugs at the vc gasket.
Ya, i have a Haynes diesel repair manual. It says right here "1994 and later Direct Injection Turbo Models - The PCM decreases the glow plug on-time as oil temperature and barometric pressure increase."
