If you decide to fix it yourself, repairclinic.com is pretty good. I have ordered several parts from them and have never had a problem. Their customer service is pretty good also. I would definately use them again.
No offense.....but it needs a fairly minor repair......its not like the dishwasher is shot or anything....And without knowing what actually is the problem i don't think you can be too mad at the dishwasher yet. Whats the model number on it if you don't mind me asking?
According to Sears, the heater is NLA. The unit is about five years old, made by Whirlpool.
Thanks as always.
Knowing a little about kenmore dishwashers.....i pulled a model that was about five years old and the heater is not discontinued...its backordered till march 8th.....get me your model number and i'll make sure.
No offense taken. I am quite certain that what it needs is relatively minor. What I don't want to have happen is it start nickel and diming me. The schematic and the troubleshooting guide are near useless since it appears you need a diagnostic tool to read the codes (it's non-OBD II unfortunately )
The model number is 665.17469300. I bought it in July 2004 but I don't have the date code.
Like I said earlier, everywhere I checked, including Sears and a couple local appliance places say the heater is NLA. That's assuming it IS the heater since it tests at pretty close to the minimum on the range from the schematic (10-35Ω).
Thats very very very odd.....i'm almost 100 percent sure its the same heater as 8563007 that part number which is backordered a few weeks.....
But, even assuming I can get the part, how certain would you be that is where the problem lies? That is the dilemma I am in . Buy a $100 part online and 1) hope it fits and 2) hope it was the problem if it DOES fit.
Well sure I hear ya....and thats where if you don't want to spend some coin on a service tech.....you're going to be pitchin money at a dart board. But again it where I maintain if its a 125 dollar repair (with a service guy).....you can't complain too much on a 5 year old dishwasher.....yes it would be nice if we never had to fix anything....but mechanical things fail and thats the risk we all take...

Like I have said, I don't mind spending the money on either the service guy or the part but since the part isn't something Sears or any other applicance parts stock, I am looking at two visits plus the part.
Now, you said earlier it was an easy fix and now you said it is $125 with the service guy but you never said what you think it is. Are you suggesting it is the heater element or something else? You seem to know these machines but you are being kind of vague......
Oh...my bad.....I really do probably think its your heating element. That said, i'm not comfortable enough to spend my money on it if it were my dishwasher.... Does the element get hot when you run the dishwasher on the rest of the cycle???
If you are uncomfortable with your diagnosis..I'd pay to have the Sears tech make the house call if as you say it's @$75.
Don't let on you're able to do the repair yourself. When you get his diagnosis tell him you need to think about whether you want invest the parts and labor cost or swap it out and will call if need be. Don't forget a tip!!
If it's cost effective to repair it..PartsTap is a great resource for repair parts for almost any appliance. I swear by them(dryer motors, oven ignitors, washer trannies.....) and have often recommended them and gotten thanks. I've yet to find a part they didn't have.
Good luck.
