I don't know if the 450's and up had something different, but the 250's and 350's of our era were rated at 20K (GCWR) and the cooler (as puny as it is) is rated for 28K GVW. I suppose that leaves about an 8K margin .

If I understand it correctly, the 6.0L tranny cooler is around 40K GVW.

I bought a tru-cool 4739 from diesel site, I took it to my mechanic and he tells me he would not bother because I already had a large one. Well based on what i saw and read on here I wanted a second opinion. I took it to a transmission shop, dropped it off and he called me an hour later and said, I can put this one on but you already have a large one on it. He went on to talk about the heavy duty hitch and I had a heavy duty cooler with the tow package. From what I have seen on here the stock 7.3 cooler is about 8" deep. The one I have is about 18" from what I can tell. Its about 1" thick though. I was on the phone with dieselsite and he swore up and down that i have a stock one until i measured it and he said that the PO must have put that on there because that was the size of the 6.0. My question is am I looking at the right thing. I pulled back the black cover that covers the cooler. What I was looking at would be the first thing you see when you look through the grill from the outside, it has 2 lines that run into it at the top on the passenger side. I dont feel the PO would have upgraded because he never towed anything with it. How thick is the 6.0 cooler? Thankd for any advice. I just do not wantto return it and find out that I needed it all along

Here's a picture to show you what the 6.0, 7.3 and V10 (Tru-Cool) tranny coolers look like:

Props to superduty4x4 for finding the pic for another post.
