03-07 were the years of the 6.0L. If you don't get in a rush sometimes you can find good deals. I paid $40 for my 6.0 cooler with only 45k miles on it out of a rolled truck.

Tru-Cool 4739

Bob Riley sells the unit for 120.00, best Ive seen and I installed mine with no problems.

Its the one they install in the V10 rigs,
The stock 7.3L cooler is a 28k GVW model. This Tru-Cool Max 4739 unit is a 40K model.

Picture Installed

The Trucool works if its plumbed in series with the stock cooler. Not nearly as large/efficient as the 6.0 cooler.
Corwin- any truck 03-07 with the 6.0 diesel will have the big cooler. Not sure if the Ex is the same but I'd guess it is. There are 2 flavors, 27 row and 31 row. Either are more than sufficient for a trans cooler. The thing is about the size of a Honda Civic radiator

The 6.0 coolers sometime pop up on Fleabay from time to time also. Funny, the prices usually are higher come the summer months so now is a good time to start snooping around for them. Also, in 2003 model year, there are some SD's with came with the 7.3's (switchover to the 6.0's happen in mid model year) which means they will have the smaller cooler.

There are 2 versions of the 6.0 tranny cooler: the 26 row (5C3Z-7A095-CA) and the 31 row (5C3Z-7A095-CB). The 31 row was the early one. I'm not sure but I think around 2005 they switched to the 26 row. The 26 row is a redesigned cooler that is more efficient (almost as efficient as the 31 row) and cheaper than the 31 row in case you were interested.

I wouldn't trust a junkyard unit. It might have been in an accident and have problems with integrity. Look for it on Ebay.

I'll try and find the pic, hang on a few. Basically the Tru-Cool and the stocker together are almost the same size as the 6.0 cooler.

I love Google.

FWIW, the Tru-Cool Max 4739 IS the OEM V10 cooler, it just doesn't have the tabs to mount to OEM locations.

I think you are mistaken. The tru cool is NOT that big. The 6.0 cooler is the size of the radiator not the tru cool. How is the 6.0 better? It fits securely without zip ties and other fan-dangling.
